This week, I chose to use the song "Castle House Rag" for my blog post. After listening to it once, I thought it seemed like a fun song with many different ways of joy expressed. After listening to it a 2nd time, I actually started to think of Disneyland! It gave me the same feeling as if I were actually there. So I guess that could support how the emotions are "joyful." After listening to it for a 3rd time, I thought of a parade. I believe that this song was created for an event of the sort. It almost sounds like it can be in a marching band as well, but I notice that some of the instruments aren't traditionally in one.
It greatly surprised me at how I perceived it completely differently once I listened to the song "Castle House Rag" for the 2nd time. There aren't any lyrics to the song, but it is quite enjoyable to listen to. My favorite part of the song is about 1/3 through when the music is getting noticeably louder. It most definitely helps bring emotion, such as anxiousness and excitement, to the listeners experience. It is a great song; I'm curious who the targeted audience is. I'd love to learn more about this song!
I love how you said it reminds you of Disneyland because I didn't even think about that, but it's so true! It gives me Fantasia type of feeling with how it's very spirited. I think the fact that it was just music and that it didn't have a singer is what brings attention to it because I feel like not many songs had just the music. Although I could be wrong about that. I love your review and I agree with it a lot!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with how you said that this piece is "joyful". Most ragtime pieces are upbeat and high energy, aka joyful. I'm sure you can still find some ragtime that are less upbeat. Mostly when people think of ragtime they think of jazzy dancing music. As a musician myself I love analyzing the music itself, so for me when there are no lyrics or vocals it is easier to notice dynamics, that you also mentioned in your post.
ReplyDeleteI like how I can completely agree with you about how even though there is no lyrics the song is still very much enjoyable. I had the same interaction with the song I chose for our second blog post. I enjoy how you said it reminds you of Disneyland its definitely a more uplifting song so I can see where you're coming from! Great review on the song and I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as you did.
