Week 3 - "My Blue Heaven" by Gene Austin

My Blue Heaven - song by Gene Austin | Spotify

This week, I chose to listen to "My Blue Heaven" written by Walter Donaldson, sung by many; the song was made popular by crooner Gene Austin. First and foremost, let me say, this song has such a sweet feeling to it, and I quite enjoyed listening to it several times.

Looking over the lyrics, Austin seems to be telling about a day winding up, and the evening approaching. He feels "nothing but love" at the end of his day. It makes "the world go 'round." He then sings of a "Blue Heaven," whatever that may be. "Just Molly and me..." I assume means that's his wife and him. Then I love that he adds, "... and baby makes three," exposing that he has a little family of 3. I believe that the bridge in the song is when birds start chirping and singing, which goes perfectly along, considering some of the lyrics are about birds retiring to their nests for the night.

But putting all lyrics aside, I love the instrumentals, especially the soft piano. It brings peace and happiness to more people than me, I'm sure! I also understand why this song gained popularity once Austin recording was released. His voice alone is so soothing.

All in all, this song has a sweet feeling to it, and it's relaxing & wholesome.

  2. I really love what you've done with your blog. Everything looks so put together. It's been very enjoyable to look through. I love the color theme you chose. Okay now for the actual song, I also did this song. I really enjoyed listening to this song. I liked reading what you though though because you focused more on the lyrics while I focused more so on the instrumental side. You brought a new perspective that I would have never thought of. I really enjoyed reading your post!
