I am choosing to do my blog report on the song "25 or 6 to 4" by Chicago this week. Not going to lie, I don't think I've ever heard this song, but it does have some familiar elements to it. I can't put my finger on it, though. Learning about this song in class was actually really fun. I also listened to it for someone else's blog and enjoyed it quite a bit. Chicago is a great band, and I especially love their song "You're The Inspiration." It's a really fun song just like "25 or 6 to 5," except it has soft(er) elements and feels a bit emotional. Just like learning in class, Chicago makes the majority of their songs about anthemic love songs. It's a pretty cool thing to be known about! Love songs were once so popular (sometimes can still be considered popular), and Chicago most definitely contributed to that!
The horn instruments are a really fun aspect to the song, too. It gives it a lot of excitement. I do love the harmony throughout the song. Harmony is something that has always given me chills and probably will continue to. I did a little bit of research on the song, and turns out it's used at sporting events because the horns and tempo are so fitting for those events.
Great blog post! I was in pep band for a few years and we played “25 or 6 to 4” so I’ve known the rhythm of this song for a while but I never really listened to it until now. I also really like some of Chicago’s other songs. I probably prefer their softer ones like you mentioned but this song is really good too.
ReplyDeleteGood observations! I like how you included the bit about it being played at sporting events, it's something that I probably wouldn't have thought about but after you mentioned it I listened to the song and it made perfect sense. Very interesting analysis, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis song is so unique and has lots of great aspects to it. Listening closely to this song allows you to understand how truly complicated it is. It is a great song to look at and analyze. The instruments definitely are fun to listen to.
