This week, I'd like to post about the song "Conga" by Gloria Estefan! This song has always been a fun one; it talks purely about dancing. I can't recall the first time I heard it, but I was probably just a kid.
Learning about this song in class was fun, especially because we were able to watch what looked like the music video. It seemed to really portray the mood and excitement of the song, and even a life performance of this song. A fun fact about "Conga" that I found is that it was played repeatedly in clubs in the 1980's, when the song came out to the public. I'm sure that at the time, the clubs became such an exciting place to be mostly because of the great music of the 80's, as well as this song specifically.
The Latin-American music most definitely progressed from the early 1900's to the 1980's, because more than a few specific audiences enjoyed the genre. It was becoming more "Americanized." It's fun to get the undoubtedly Latin feeling to it while also being able to understand the lyrics because they are English!
Overall, this song is way fun, and I was happy to learn about it in class.
Dancing music is so much fun- it's so energizing and always brings out some adrenaline in me. I always want to just get up and dance!! This song was so well written and was almost definitely a turning point for club-type music.
